We have some unfortunate news for fans of Sega’s iconic hedgehog character, Sonic, as Sonic Generations is set to be removed from digital stores next month and will no longer be available for purchase. This means that the game will not be obtainable in any form after its removal.
However, the development team has clarified that the removal of the game from stores doesn’t mean it will become unplayable. A recent post from the official Sonic the Hedgehog account on Platform X confirmed that the game, which was originally released in 2011, will be removed from stores on September 9th. It is speculated that this move is being made to make room for the remastered Sonic X Shadow Generations.
Sonic Generations Returns with a Remastered Version
Although Sonic Generations will be taken off the shelves, those who don’t own the game will still be able to acquire it through a new expansion pack. This is great news for players who missed out on the original release. Additionally, it has been confirmed that mod support for the Steam version, which features a unique and special scene, will continue. The official post shared the following message:
“We’re excited to share Sonic X Shadow Generations with you in October and can’t wait to see if the new generation will love this game as much as we do. On September 9th, the original game will be removed from sale, but we’ve heard your feedback and have decided not to retire the game entirely. You will still be able to purchase it as a separate package on Steam and Xbox.”
This move ensures that current owners of the game can continue to download and play it whenever they wish. Lastly, it’s worth noting that the mods for the Steam version will remain unaffected by this change.
